Continued exploration for oil in western and North Dakota means thousands of jobs are opening up. And along with jobs created by the new drilling, thousands more will open up because of retirement. Ron Ness, president of the North Dakota Petroleum Council, says the opportunities for young people in the oil and gas industry are incredible right now. Ness says the employment outlook in the oil patch has seldom been so rosy. And many of the openings offer the chance for quick advancement in a very economically vital industry. “We haven’t hired a lot of people for 20-plus years in this industry so there are a lot of people looking to retire. In fact, between 50 and 75% of our workforce is going to retire in the next two to eight years. So opportunities for ground floor jobs and to move your way up quickly exist all over the oil and gas industry in North Dakota.”
